Earlier this month, Metallica gave an acoustic concert in San Francisco to raise funds for the non-profit All Within My Hands Foundation. They played a few hits that were well translated into acoustic instruments ("Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters"), reworked some clbadics to fit the format ("Disposable Heroes") and attempted unusual covers ( "Veteran of the Psychic" of Blue Öyster Cult Wars "and Nazareth" Please, do not judge me "). In order to raise more money for the charity, which has recently made a donated $ 100,000 to help with California's wildfire relief efforts, the concert is released as an album.
The output of the double LP, Helping Hands … Live & Acoustic Masonic, will be officially released on February 1st but, as part of Giving Tuesday, it is available for pre-order now. It features two colorful vinyl records on a heavy 140 gram vinyl and a download card. All net profits go to the All Inclusive Foundation Between My Hands. It will also be available at independent record stores and in digital form next year.
Last year, the group launched the charity with the goal of fighting hunger and strengthening communities through the education of the workforce. The concert, which included an auction, raised $ 1.3 million for the cause. The group will distribute the money to Feeding America and the American Association of Community Colleges. As the charity is self-managed and funded, 100% of donations go to other organizations that the Foundation supports.
The group also offers a limited edition engraved glbad, with images of the artist Pushead for their single "One" on it, as part of Giving Tuesday. All net proceeds go to the foundation.
Earlier this year, Metallica organized a "day of service", encouraging fans to participate in local food banks. Lars Ulrich wrote an essay for Rolling stone about what he learned from the experience. "I have met [Metallica fan] Robert Alvarez at the Metallica Service Day here at the San Francisco – Marin Food Bank, "he wrote. "He told me how two of the most important things in his life ran into him that day. He has been working there for 13 years to look after his immediate community and his family members. In addition, he owns all of Metallica's records and is called an unconditional fan.
"For me, he is a good example of this effort: giving our fans a music platform to connect with other members of their local community around volunteer work, give back and share the happiness that I have." I mentioned earlier … the happiness and the incredible opportunities that most of us in the western world take for granted.
