Week 9 of the 2018 NFL season will feature a marquee Thursday Night Football game on Thursday, November 1, 2018 when the Oakland Raiders take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Kickoff is slated for 8:20 p.m. EST on NFL Network, FOX and Amazon.
The Raiders are led by head coach Jon Gruden, quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Oakland is coming off a Week 8 loss vs. the Indianapolis Colts and enters the game with a 1-6 record.
The 49ers are led by head coach Kyle Shanahan, quarterback C.J. Beathard, running back Matt Breida and tight end George Kittle. The 49ers are coming in off a Week 8 loss to the Cardinals and enter the game with a 1-7 record.
Here’s how our experts see the game playing out.
Darryl Slater: What a terrible game, as the 1-6 Raiders visit the 1-7 49ers. How is that Jon Gruden contract working out so far in Oakland? Another lost year for the 49ers with Jimmy Garoppolo out for the season with a torn ACL. But the 49ers get the win Thursday on the boring outskirts of San Jose — one of the NFL’s most soul-sucking stadium locations. 49ers 21, Raiders 13.
Matthew Stypulkoski: Yikes. This one is just about destined to be ugly, given the two teams have combined for a whopping two wins. There won’t be a ton of talent on the field in this one. Derek Carr is better than C.J. Beathard, though, so give the Raiders the edge here. Raiders 24, 49ers 20.
Mike Kaye: In a game that will be as fun to watch as a trip to the dentist, the Raiders need to come away with something to feel good about for the rest of the season. Jon Gruden is flailing in his return to the league and the 49ers will be his temporary safety net if he can call a game correctly for once. This is a Thursday Night Football experience no one wants but will still probably have better ratings than the World Series. Raiders 19, 49ers 17.
Week 9 power rankings
Ryan Dunleavy: Will the 49ers play themselves out of contention for the first pick in the NFL Draft, as they did at this time last year? First, the Raiders and then the Giants in Week 10. Riveting stuff. Raiders 7, 49ers 5.
Joe Giglio: Two of the worst teams in the NFL square off to decide an important question: Who’s the king of bad Bay Area football? Give me the home team. 49ers 24, Raiders 19.
