A Palestinian was killed during clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank Friday, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The man was hit with live ammunition from behind, with the bullet piercing organs in his lower abdomen, the ministry said.

Medical sources named him as Othman Ladadwa.

The Israeli army did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Another man who was shot in the head was in serious condition, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Witnesses said clashes began when Israeli settlers came to visit a site near the village of al-Mizraa al-Ghrarabiya in the occupied West Bank and local Palestinians threw stones at them.

Israeli forces then intervened and fired both tear gas and ammunition at the Palestinians, the witnesses said.

The Israeli army said that “dozens of Palestinians instigated a riot near the Nahalin ruins, northwest of Ramallah”, during which they “set off fireworks and hurled rocks at IDF (Israel defence forces) and border police forces”.

The forces “responded with riot dispersal means, and fired in accordance with standard operation procedures”, a spokesman for the army said, noting they were aware of reports of the fatality and injuries.

Earlier this week a Palestinian man was killed during an overnight raid by Israeli forces in the village of Tamun, in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said on Wednesday.

The Palestinian ministry named the dead man as Mohammed Bisharat, 21, and said he had taken a bullet to the chest during clashes in the village, some 13 kilometers northeast of Nablus.

Israeli soldiers regularly carry out nightly raids across the West Bank, routinely detaining suspects wanted for terror attacks, illegal weapons possession, and other low-level security offenses.

A series of deadly incidents have increased tensions in the West Bank this month.

On Monday, a Palestinian man was shot dead after attempting to stab a soldier near the Cave of the Patriarchs holy site in the flashpoint city of Hebron

On October 15 a Palestinian was shot dead after stabbing a soldier in the northern West Bank.

Earlier this month, a Palestinian shot dead two Israelis and wounded another in a West Bank industrial zone. Israeli forces continue to hunt for the suspect.

A wave of mainly lone-wolf Palestinian attacks against Israelis broke out in 2015.

The series of attacks has decreased since, but badysts remain concerned over the potential for another surge.
