Police briefly detained a conservative rabbi in the city of Haifa for celebrating "illegal" Jewish marriages without the permission of the country's chief rabbinate.
Rabbi Dubi Haiyun, who belongs to the conservative Judaism movement, wrote on Facebook Thursday that the police had woken him at 5:30 am and took him for interrogation.
He says that the Haifa Orthodox Rabbinical Court "lodged a complaint against me for celebrating marriages".
Police stated that Haiyun had been arrested after failing to consider a summons. He was later released, but the case was not filed and he must appear in front of the police on Monday.
