Expectant mothers in Israel will no longer need to line up at places that provide public service.

A law tabled last night in the Knesset that aims to "give pregnant women the respect they deserve" was pbaded unanimously.

The idea was advanced by a politician whose pregnant wife was informed that she did not need to queue up while traveling overseas.

The Jerusalem Post reported that the law would amend the law on equal rights in Israel to allow women to skip exhausting queues in "supermarkets, shops, pharmacies, the post office" and any place of public service

Yousef Jabareen, who represents the common list party, initiated the legislature, saying:

abroad with my pregnant wife and when we saw Long lines in public places but surprisingly we were told that we did not have to queue.

When we returned to Israel we noticed the differences.

allows the service provider to request a medical certificate to women for proof of pregnancy.

It is not known where Jabareen was traveling with his wife when she was allowed to jump in front of a queue in public, which ultimately prompted the change.

According to the BBC, pregnant, elderly or disabled women in Brazil are legally allowed to skip queues.
