The US-based open source technology solutions company Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) today announced the acquisition of the Israeli data storage management company NooBaa. NooBaa, based in Tel Aviv, is a first step in the development of data storage service management software in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Red Hat said the addition of NooBaa's data management technology complements its portfolio of hybrid cloud offerings and helps strengthen Red Hat's position as a leading provider of open hybrid cloud technologies .
No financial details have been disclosed. Founded in 2013 by CEO Yuval Dimnik, CTO Guy Margalit, Vice President Eran Tamir and Vice President R & D Nimrod Becker, NooBaa raised $ 5 million from Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP OurCrowd, Akimai and other investors.
Dimnik told "Globes" that storage systems nowadays badume that the material that covers them is static. We start from the opposite hypothesis: the systems are dynamic. The system monitors the behavior of the systems over time and makes decisions that are not based on badumptions about the structure of the infrastructure, but rather on their behavior over time according to the needs of the organization. "
He added, "As Red Hat says, at a time when data is king, companies have large amounts of data and operate in a dispersed environment, and on the other hand, where are the data? , and how can I handle them with access and security issues. "
Dimnik added, "We're talking about many environments that seem and act differently, and we're providing a solution that looks like a platform with all the data.An organization can choose the resources it wants to use while moving. date between these resources ".
Dimnik said NooBaa's rivals are tech giants, like IBM, which acquired Red Hat earlier this month for $ 34 billion. "There are similar products, but the IBM product, for example, is very rigid and only works in an IBM environment."
As Red Hat says, NooBaa addresses the need for increased visibility and control over unstructured data distributed in these distributed environments. To do this, the company has developed a data platform designed to serve as an abstraction layer on the existing storage infrastructure. This abstraction not only allows the portability of data from one cloud to another, but also allows users to manage data stored in multiple locations as a single, consistent data set with which an application can interact.
Ranga Rangachari, Managing Director of Red Hat Storage and Hyperconverged Infrastructure, said, "Data portability is a critical requirement for organizations building and deploying native cloud applications across private and multiple clouds. NooBaa's technologies will increase our portfolio and strengthen our ability to meet the needs of developers in today's hybrid and multi-cloud world. We are excited to host a technical team of nine in the Red Hat family as we work together to further strengthen Red Hat as a leading provider of open hybrid cloud technologies. "
