The Advisory Committee on the Appointment of Senior Officials decided Thursday night not to recommend Moshe (Chico) Edri as Police Commissioner.

Two members of the committee voted in favor of the nomination, while the other two – including the chairman of the committee, former Judge Eliezer Goldberg – voted against. In the event of a tie, the chairman of the committee shall receive a decisive vote; it was therefore decided not to recommend the appointment of Ederi.

Public Safety Minister Gilad Erdan announced that he would not accept the committee's position given the link.

Erdan noted that the reasoning of the committee did not allow to establish the existence of a lack of "normative values" or a lack of integrity in the Edri's behavior and that there was no reason to prevent the appointment of Edri as police commissioner. Erdan said he would ask to appear before the committee and present his arguments.

While waiting for another decision to be made, Erdan announced that he would soon be appointing a police commissioner.

The Advisory Committee is responsible for overseeing senior civil servants, including the Police Commissioner, the IDF Chief of Staff and the Governor of the Bank of Israel.

As part of the verification process, the committee ordered Edri to take a polygraph test on Wednesday, which would have been successfully adopted. The committee however also received a report from the state controller on Edri's conduct when he was heading the traffic police division.

Numerous allegations of Edri's inappropriate behavior have recently surfaced, including accusations that he allegedly charged a taxi driver who allegedly told him that he was driving recklessly. This taxi driver had already recounted his experience with Edri at the Goldberg Committee.
