The prosecution of Benjamin Netanyahu by the Attorney General for Cases 1000 ("Illegal Gifts Case") and 2000 ("Yediot Aharonot-Yisrael Hayom Case") allegedly recommended that the Prime Minister be charged with corruption.

A report on Channel 10 on Sunday night said that the director of the Economic Crimes Division, Liat Ben-Ari, had concluded that there was enough evidence to indict Netanyahu for corruption in case 1000. This would be consistent with public comments she had done in May 2017.

Ben-Ari's recommendation must first be approved by Attorney General Shai Nitzan and finally by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who makes the final decision in such high-profile cases.

Mandelblit made it clear that it would make a decision on all cases at the same time, no matter when the recommendations would be presented.

The Department of Justice refused to confirm or deny the report.

It is also expected that she and her prosecution team will send their recommendations to Nitzan shortly regarding the 4000 case ("Bezeq-Walla case").

The Jerusalem Post was the first to report in June that Mandelblit was likely to rule on a charge against Netanyahu for bribery in the 4000 case, with a strong chance for the 1000 case. The 2000 case was considered less clear.

In May 2017, at a conference on corruption in Tel Aviv, Ben-Ari said that "there is no gift too small to make the object of 39, a criminal investigation ".
