Singapore Airlines is moving ahead with plans to launch flights between Singapore and Tel Aviv. Sources told "Walla" that representatives of the Asian carrier were in Tel Aviv looking for a hotel where his crew could spend the night. This was not a simple task considering the high occupancy rate and even higher prices of the city.
Israel and Singapore have had bilateral air agreements for many years, and figures from the Israeli government have pushed the carrier to begin offering flights to Israel, but to no avail. However, over the past year, Singapore Airlines has seen its main competitors Cathay Pacific, Hainan Airlines and Air India successfully establish profitable routes between Tel Aviv and Asia. The big loser in all of this could be El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL), which previously held the monopoly of direct Israeli flights to India and the Far East.
