Recent leaks pointing to a side-by-side launch for next-generation Pixelbook and Pixel 3 smartphones have revived speculation that Chromium Gerrit might be referring to "Atlas" for this Chromebook manufactured by Google. The initial code badociated with this hardware has almost imitated that of the current Chrome OS laptop type device, which is not a totally unjustified expectation. In addition, the code added later suggested that the device would, at a minimum, come with 8GB of RAM. It's something that only the high-end Pixelbook can boast of this writing, although there are more expensive variants that come with more memory. Other rumors have also indicated that we expected Atlas to have a set of display at a resolution of 4K. This type of screen is also something that really does not correspond to a Chromebook built by Google at the moment, which seems to reinforce the narrative behind the speculation that Atlas is the Google Pixelbook 2.
Meanwhile, two other variations on the build seem to be referenced in the commit. These are called "Nocturne" and "Poppy" and point to a device with a fully detachable keyboard. At the time of writing these lines, only the HP Chromebook x2 comes with this particular configuration, but the commits have raised further speculation that the next Pixelbook could come with several configurations. If that's true, Google's latest device could be available as a more standard convertible laptop with a 360-degree hinge or with a completely detachable keyboard for a more typical tablet experience. The company may even choose to sell the keyboard separately, reflecting Acer's strategy with its Chromebook Tab 10 – launched earlier this year. It certainly would not be the first time the research giant has taken this approach. The current Pixelbook, for example, does not include the stylus of the size of an badociated pen in the box. This must be purchased for an additional $ 99.
However, there is no guarantee that current speculations are correct and the news should be taken with a grain of salt. The company usually keeps a tight lid on all future material and the information that slides does not necessarily provide a complete picture. For starters, there is no information available on the processor or GPU of the new Chromebook Atlas. There is also no leakage regarding the camera's storage space, color configurations or overall design. The Google hardware event is scheduled to take place on or around October 4th.
