Israeli consumption of plastic bags decreased by 80% in 2017 compared with the previous year, according to the Israeli Ministry of the Environment Sunday.
The ministry said the reduction was attributed primarily to a 2016 chain law, reported Xinhua.
The "Law on Plastic Bags" was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment to reduce environmental pollution due to plastic.
Israeli supermarkets provide their customers with more than one billion plastic bags a year before 2016. In fact, supermarkets have been forced to charge about $ 0.027 for a bag.
Nowadays, the ministry said it was working on a new plan to further reduce the use of plastic bags not only in supermarkets but in all stores in Israel.
