(JTA) – The governor of Illinois called a neo-Nazi candidate to abandon the race

Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican, denounced Arthur Jones, a former leader of the US Nazi Party, but refused to support the opposing Democratic candidate.

His answer differed from Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a former presidential candidate, who in a tweet on Friday called on Illinois voters to "write to another candidate, or vote for the Democrat" against Jones.

It's horrible. A confessed Nazi running for the congress. To the good people of Illinois, you have two reasonable choices: write to another candidate, or vote for the Democrat. This crazy idiot should receive ZERO votes. https://t.co/9WYlvCMKaF- Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) June 29, 2018

Rauner said Tuesday that the Illinois GOP and the National Republican Party have done their utmost to get Jones's ballot, for which he ran unchallenged. "I called him [on] for him to come out and he should be out, and we should have someone running against him," said Rauner at a stop in the center of Illinois, according to Politico. "There is no room, as I said as soon as he's snuck out there, there's no place in our politics for a person like that. "

Illinois Republicans also said that they would be working on the third congressional district, which is a predominantly democratic district, for the November elections, reported Politico. Democratic representative Dan Lipinski served the district for nearly a decade
