It seems that the pbadage of Serena Joy Waterford as a member of The servant's taleResistance stop abruptly.

Was she surprised helping June? Has she lost yet another appendage of Gilead's draconian punitive system? Nope: In this week's episode, she just saw her young daughter for the first time since the child was smuggled safely, and her resolve to defeat Gilead collapsed like a crescent. (Read our full summary of the episode here.)

"Serena Joy has so many choices to make," executive producer Warren Littlefield told TVLine. "What will she do to get in touch with Nichole?"

We asked this question to the star of the series Yvonne Strahovski, who plays the wife of the commander in conflict. Keep reading for her thoughts on the episode, the state of the Waterford wedding, and the possibility that Serena will take advantage of a tempting offer of escape.

the-handmaids-tale-recap-season-3-episode-5 TVLine | I want to start with Serena's trip to Canada. I was struck by the fact that Fred allowed him to go alone.
Yeah, it was certainly something that hit me, too, that he would make her leave without him. I mean, he had one of the guards who accompanied him on the plane, which she quickly sent back when she arrived in Canada, and he did not really know what to do. But yes, I did not think it would have happened before. This is certainly a big step forward for Fred in improving their relationship, as we have found from the beginning that Serena had really abandoned them. She really blames Fred for everything he did to her baby. He therefore makes every effort to trust him. I think it's a very big move. It's a lot of trust, right there.

I can not speak for Joe [Fiennes]but maybe he does not think she'll ever stay. If you go to Canada, who knows what's going on there? You could become a political prisoner. You could go to trial. Serena envisioned so much, as you know, very early in Season 2 when she went to Canada, and she had the carrot hanging in front of her where she could have stayed. But do not know in these circumstances what is happening to you.

Interview with The Handmaids Tale Season 3 Episode 5 Yvonne StrahovskiTVLine | We saw June and Serena establish a provisional alliance at the beginning of this season. In your mind, does seeing Nichole erase all this for her?
Yeah. She can not think of anything else. It's so overwhelming for her that she takes everything … For Serena, this season is dedicated to the battle between all her contradictory emotions. It's a battle between the mind and the heart, because in a way, Serena learned the greatest lesson at the end of season 2. And the biggest lesson is, "How can I be good? mother for my child? " A good mother for this child is to give the child and send it somewhere else, and that was the ultimate sacrifice for her. But she learned this lesson, so she knows deep down that she's made the right choice, but she's fighting her now in this third season and she's sorry. She hates that. She hates Fred for that. She hates everyone for that, and she can not help but think about it. I mean, as you would! You would be so emotional that you could not stop thinking about it.

TVLine | Serena now has this satellite phone in her bag. Will she be as quick to reject Mark Tuello's second escape offer as to reject the first?
Well, I do not think she ever refuses anything, really. You may see it on the surface, but it removes everything and thinks about it long and hard. She is that kind of person. She walks each avenue thinking about what will happen, manipulating the situation. So it's important for her to think and expect a few moments until she decides what will happen.

TVLine | Can you tell me if she is making a phone decision this season?
She certainly finds it useful for what put her on her heart.
