The sequel to Call Of Duty calls on a writer before the first one is released

Activision makes several Call of Duty films; the first is directed by Stefano Solima, director of Sicario 2, and we now hear the first word on the second.

According to Variety, Activision Blizzard Studios, the television and movie division of the video game publisher, has hired Black Panther writer, Joe Robert Cole, to write the script. Activision Blizzard Studios has not yet officially announced that Cole would be the writer and the company has not responded to GameSpot's comment request.

The first Call of Duty movie has no casting or release date yet, but things can advance quickly (or very slowly) to Hollywood, so it's not unreasonable nor unprecedented that it's not going to happen. Activision Blizzard Studios is already moving forward with a sequel.

There is no word to describe the plot of any of the Call of Duty movies, but it would seem that they could be part of a cinematic style universe Marvel with many stories of connection.

Stacey Sher and Nick van Dyk, co-chairs of Activision Blizzard Studios' in-house production team, said in an interview that films based on the Call of Duty sub-brands were under preparation, while many scenarios had already been written.

"We have been plotting for many years," said Sher. "We have gathered this group of writers to discuss our direction.There will be a movie that will look more like Black Ops, the story behind the story.The Modern Warfare series describes what it's like. It's like fighting a war against the eyes of the world on you, and then maybe something that's more hybrid, where you're looking at private covert operations, while a public operation is going on. "

"It's going to have the same kind of high adrenaline and high energy aesthetics as the game, but it's not a literal adaptation," van Dyk added. "It's a much broader and inclusive film, world-wide … a great Marvel-esque movie."
