Israel's ambbadador to the UN, Danny Danon, said he would not leave his post of political leader for the upcoming elections of April 2019.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Mission to the United Nations continues to achieve unprecedented achievements in the diplomatic arena," Danon said Saturday night.

Under the direction of PM @netanyahu, @IsraelinUN continues to achieve unprecedented achievements in the diplomatic arena. During this difficult period, I will continue to advance Israel's position in the UN and will not participate in the next Knesset elections.

"During this difficult period, I intend to continue to advance Israel's position in the UN and, therefore, I will not participate in the upcoming elections to the United Nations. Knesset, "he said, adding that" the role of Israel's ambbadador to the UN is a great responsibility, and I will continue to strengthen Israel's position in the United Nations. during this difficult period. "

In August 2015, Danon, a Likud pillar, resigned from the government and traveled to New York to take up the prestigious post of ambbadador to the UN.

Danon first entered the Knesset via the Likud in the 2009 elections and often took a stance on the right of the party, without fear of challenging Netanyahu about his politics, especially with regard to the settlements. He was a frequent visitor to the West Bank before arriving in New York.

He has also run for the Likud leader in the past and has a solid base of supporters, reaching ninth place on the party's list in the 2015 elections.

On Wednesday, reports circulated that Danon was considering leaving his post as ambbadador and returning to Israel to get to the list of Likud candidates.
