First introduced in The original Ant-Man the Quantum Kingdom is expected to play an even more important role in Ant-Man and Wasp and potentially even future MCU films But what exactly is this psychedelic place ? Here's What You Should Know
What is the Quantum Kingdom?
The Quantum Kingdom is an Alternative Dimension Where the Laws Usually Governing Time and Space Cease to Exist Discovered for the first time by scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), he realizes that the quantum realm is accessible using Pym particles to shrink objects at a subatomic level.
In 1987, Hank's wife, Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) sacrificed her life by turning off her regulator and narrowing to a subatomic level in order to neutralize a Soviet nuclear missile. After this incident, Hank devotes the work of his life to trying to better understand the alternative dimension, but is ultimately unable to learn much additional information.
What role does he play in the original Ant-Man?
Scott Lange (Paul Rudd) finds himself briefly trapped adrift across the Quantum Kingdom when his own regulator is damaged during his fight against Darren Cross. While tumbling through the weird and colorful shapes of this dimension, a quick flash of Janet Van Dyne's wasp suit can be seen before Scott continues to skid. Having a brief moment of clarity, it replaces the narrowing regulator with an enlarger, and is able to grow sufficiently to escape once again.
Where else did we see it?
We saw the pop of Quantum Realm on the big screen in another MCU property as well. We see Dr. Strange briefly traveling through the Quantum Kingdom on his first visit to the Old and she sends him through several dimensions and alternate realities in an attempt to open his mind to unlimited potential from the universe. This helps us to better understand that this dimension can also be reached by other magical means, including the slingshot rings worn by the Masters of the Mystic Arts. It is also briefly the subject of a cry in the premiere of Season Three Agents of Shield when Coulson notices how Fitz regarded the quantum realm's search as a potential location for Simmons that had faded away.
How Might It Impact on the Future of the MCU
Going from the front, the quantum field will become even more vital to the MCU as a whole and is often mentioned as a possible solution in the theories involving Captain Marvel, and how it could help save the lost Avengers at the end of Infinite War . For now, we will have to sit down and see what secrets Scott Lange and Janet Hope's daughter Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily) can discover in Ant-Man and Wasp .
