William Shatner recently published a holiday album entitled "Shatner Claus" on which he sings clbadic Christmas tunes such as "Jingle Bells", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Silent Night".
But there are no Chanukah songs, and the Jewish icon has regrets about it.
"I was going to do 'Dreidel, Dreidel', and then I thought better … I mean, maybe I should have," Shatner said in PBS's upcoming documentary "Hanukkah: A DeLights Festival". Jerusalem Post.
He also recalled the memories of his childhood in Hanukkah in the documentary.
"The menorah was silvery and blackened by a few years of use. The places where the candles came in were black, no matter how much polishing was done, "said Shatner. "It was something that stayed somewhere on the chimney all year until it was used – and then it was used with a lot of respect."
The actor born in Montreal, known for playing Captain Kirk in "Star Trek," also explained how his mother would latke during the holidays.
"My mother is standing over a frying pan, putting the potato mixture, the chopped potatoes into the sizzling fat, the oil, and cooking the potato pancakes," he declared. "The [memory of] potato pancakes and applesauce … and the family all around having pancakes is indelible. "
