Yiddish FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Extends the race

The Yiddish National Theater Folksbiene (NYTF) today announced the eagerly awaited American premiere of the Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof, which has begun presenting PERFORMANCES Off Broadway at the Jewish Heritage Week Museum, will extend its run for an additional week until September 2 due to ticket demand. NYTF, recently named for a 2018 Outstanding Musical Revivial Drama Desk Award (Amerike-The Golden Land), brings for the first time Yiddish translation of Fiddler on the Roof to America and 50 years since she's had place in Israel. The show will be presented in Yiddish with English and Russian surtitles.

"The Yiddish translation of Fiddler on the roof was artfully constructed by the famous Israeli actor / director Shraga Friedman in 1965, and supports the brilliance of Sheldon Harnick / Jerry Bock.The musical of Joseph Stein, while deepening the connection between the work and the original tales of Sholem Aleichem's Dairyman, "says Zalmen Mlotek, artistic director of NYTF." Friedman, born in Yiddish language, was born in Warsaw and fled the Second World war with his family, traveling to Tel Aviv in 1941. Well acquainted with the works of Sholen Aleichem, Friedman designed his translation to give Fiddler literary references to the original stories of Tevye the Dairyman.
