Yup, Samsung is definitely announcing its foldable Galaxy F this week – BGR

With Samsung now having reported earnings for the first three of the year, we can safely say that all of the 2018 flagship smartphones have underwhelmed. The company's mobile division is stellar performance in Samsung's semi-over-the-top business, thanks in part to a number of smartphones that are unquestionably the most important boring flagships Samsung has released in years. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + were powerful upgrades compared to last year's S8 phones, but they also featured almost exactly the same design and no new features whatsoever. They're on track to be Samsung's worst-selling Galaxy S phones since 2012 as a result. The Galaxy Note 9 was more than the same, offering a bump specs compared to the Note 8, but with the same design and only one new feature that would not matter to us.

Because 2018 was so boring at the end of Samsung's smartphone line, 2019 is going to be a very important year for the smartphone market. The good news, of course, is that it's shaping up to be a huge year indeed for Samsung. The company is going to be completely redesigned Galaxy S10 that features plenty of "firsts" for Samsung, such as an in-display fingerprint sensor, a brand new camera system, and an all-screen design with a hole cut out for the camera instead of a notch. Then Samsung is expected to follow up the Galaxy S10 series with another first: the "Galaxy F" smartphone with a foldable OLED display. Now, following rumors that suggested Samsung would do some preliminary details around the Galaxy F this week, we have conclusive evidence that this will be the case.

The annual Samsung Developer Conference is scheduled to take place this week, beginning on Wednesday, November 7th. SDC is nowhere near as big as Apple's annual WWDC event, but SDC 2018 promises to be a bit more action-packed than the events we've seen in the past. Why? Because there is no doubt that we will be able to take the wraps off of our hotly anticipated foldable smartphone.

Samsung was supposedly in a race with Huawei, but both companies ended up losing a brand name of China. The good news for Samsung is unlikely to launch outside China. Also, it looks awful.

Samsung's Galaxy F is expected to be a more refined smartphone that works as a tablet when unfolded or when a phone folded. Samsung's next-generation chipset will be 7nm 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC in the United States, and it will feature a special version of Android created by Samsung and Google especially for folding phones.

As for specifics, the Galaxy F is believed to have a large 7.3-inch OLED screen that folds like a clamshell. A second 4.6-inch OLED can be used as a normal phone while folded closed. The phone is expected to be quite large and bulky, though pocketable. We've gotten to the point where phablets are so large that this is the only way to fit a bigger screen into a pocket.

While we're not expecting a full unveiling until sometime next year, it's been rumored for quite some time that Samsung plans to announce preliminary information about the phone this week at SDC 2018. Now, we can state that it's going to happen. How do we know? Well, they say a picture is worth 1,000 words, so take a look at the new picture Samsung just added a profile Samsung mobile Facebook account:

Yup, enough said. Samsung sdc 2018 event kicks off with a keynote at 1:00 pm ET / 10:00 am PT on Wednesday, November 7th, and you can expect to see the company's new foldable smartphone make an appearance.
