Matthew McConaughey addresses a potential candidacy.

The actor spoke with the Today The show’s Al Roker, who was in Texas to report on the state’s recovery from historic winter storms, has spoken – including the star’s own speculation – that he is considering running for governor of the ‘State.

“It is a very honorable consideration,” said the Oscar winner, 51. “So am I considering this? Sure. It’s a great and honorable thing to consider.”

The father of three continued, “What I have to choose for myself is: I want to take a leadership role in the next chapter of my life. Now in what role will I be most useful? “I know it’s in a political position or if it’s me as a free agent. So this is something that I personally work on is: What is my most useful position in a leadership role. “

During the segment, McConaughey, whose Just Keep Livin ‘Foundation helped Texans amid the storm’s recovery, visited a 93-year-old woman who the star and her family bonded with several years ago. years while providing a Thanksgiving dinner to those in need.

“I would vote for him,” she said confidently.

McConaughey said the only announcement he officially made was that on March 21 he had an advantage for Texans recovering from storms on his YouTube channel. It’s called We are Texas and will feature appearances from Chip and Joanna Gaines, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Willie Nelson and more.

This week, McConaughey also spoke with his hometown Longview News Journal on politics – and being in the middle with Republicans on one side and Democrats on the other.

“I said this analogy a few [times] before, but someone said to me, ‘There’s nothing in the middle but dead armadillos and yellow lines,’ “he said.” I said, ‘Well, I’m walking right on the yellow lines, right in the middle of the freeway right now. And the armadillos are free to have a good time, because at the moment both sides are so far to the right or left, there are not even any tires on the sidewalk. So I think going in, thinking Democrat or Republican or whatever, is a little thought now and even becomes unconstitutional because you’re supposed to serve the American people or the people of your state. “

He said that due to parties, politicians often take office and “your hands are tied in many ways.” And when politicians embrace change, it’s often not permanent.

“With politics you can go and put bandages on certain things for four years, but once you get out those bandages can be ripped off, so what change are you really making? For me, I need politics to define its goal before I choose it as a possible path for me, ”he said.

For now, he has said he stands in the middle of the two parties – and that is where he will stay.

“That’s what I say now when I say, ‘Hey, I’m going to meet you in the middle, I challenge you.’ It’s a challenge now. It is not a place of the gray colors of compromise or closure. No. It’s a frantic, daring pace to go right now – in the middle, “McConaughey said.” And, if you completely illegitimize the opposing camp, you’re only serving half of it anyway.
