Antonio Brown is the latest NFL superstar to honor the cover of "Madden" from EA Sports. Really one of the greatest honors that a current player can achieve. You are part of the elite elite in the history of the NFL if you make this esteemed fraternity. Think of the names: Tom Brady. Ray Lewis. Peyton Hillis. Wait, who? Oh, yeah: Clevelanders stuffed the urn in 2011 to get their one year return on the cover. You know, it's been a tough decade (or six) for Browns fans. I'll let slip that one.
But do not let that take away AB. One of the best receivers in the game. I would say it's best to do it in the last 20 years. And yes, I saw Randy Moss playing. Look, we already talked about it. We will not go over it now. But let's say it's a great honor for Antonio Brown.
And that made me think: Who are other superstars who could receive this honor next year? Here are five possible candidates in front of "Madden 20":
1) Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles is the perfect place to play sports. We have the best player in the Major League Baseball, Mike Trout. We have LeBron James. And we have the best return in the NFL. (Do not @ me.) Gurley has just come out of a season where he posted 2,093 multipurpose yards and scored 19 total touchdowns – both tops in the NFL. He has just started Sean McVay's offensive. And with these Hollywood connections, I have Gurley as the first favorite for next season.
2) Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins, QB and WR, Houston Texans
A combo cover is not unprecedented. Troy Polamalu and Larry Fitzgerald shared the spotlight for "Madden 10." But it would be the first time that a pair of teammates honor a cover. And I can not think of a better tandem right now. In just seven games, Watson had 1,699 yards and 21 touchdowns. In Watson's last five starts, he's hooked up with Hopkins on a whopping seven. There's a lot of excitement for the Texans this season, but the nutters doubt that Watson will be able to come back and duplicate his success. I am not one of those people.
3) Jalen Ramsey, BC, Jacksonville Jaguars
Ramsey jumped into EverBank Field after the Jaguars' victory (do not call it a reversal) on the Steelers in the divisional round in January and said to the raucous crowd to bring it because they were going to go to the Super Bowl and win that [female dog]. And in doing so, he instantly became one of my favorite players. Like when Rocky Maivia became "The Rock" on August 8, 1997. Of course, the Rock was mocked by the WWE crowd that night, while Ramsey was hailed by the admiration of Duval County fans , in Florida. But I think you get the point.
4) Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints of New Orleans
Kamara was a legitimate superstar during his rookie season with the Saints. Some expect a fall. By comparing him to Gurley, who himself struggled in year 2, I think the same thing can happen here. But wait … (checks the notes) No, Jeff Fisher was not hired by the Saints during the off season! So, I will instead place my faith in one of the best offensive game players on the planet making the most of Kamara this season. In addition, I have already made a petition to get him into the 99 Club.
5) Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Stop me if you've ever heard that, but … Jimmy G never lost an NFL game he started. If you look only at numbers and trends, you could make a case for him by going 16-0 this season. It would be silly, but you could do it. I believe, however, that Garoppolo will prosper under Kyle Shanahan and display the numbers to put his name into the conversation. I mean, he's already gaining popularity. In fact, he sells more merch than the 'Veon Bell
