The Dodgers quickly took advantage in the sixth game of the series, but it was short-lived. The Brewers gather in the first inning for four points. They had to fight and the Dodgers did not let them escape with the game. In fact, they had two chances with the tie tied in the fifth inning, but that was never too risky for the Brewers . They won 7-2. That sets the table for a match 7 Saturday night.
Here are some of the most important things to know about game 6.
Freese immediately puts the Dodgers in place
It did not take long to see a number on the board. David Freese, a Dodgers first baseman, started only the fourth time in his career. announced his presence with authority.
Boom. Just like that, it was 1-0 Dodgers and it was as if the air had been sucked from Miller Park.
Things were a bit different at the end of the inning, though. New villain Manny Machado striped to the delight of the faithful brewers and the fun reported …
The brewers end up ending up in the clutch
The Brewers had four points in the first and one in the second. It should be noted in particular that the first innings of the inning were marked by two outs. When Travis Shaw scored two-on-one, there was a worrisome familiar feeling from the Brewers' point of view, as they had been terrible in situational strikes in the series. Here's how they played with the riders in the scoring position and how many men were left on the base.
- Game 1: 2-11 RISP, 8 LOB
- Game 2: 0-5 RISP, 5 LOB
- Game 3: 1-6 RISP, 6 LOB
- Game 4: 0-8 RISP, 10 LOB
- Game 5: 2-5 RISP, 4 LOB
So it's 5 for 35 (0.143) with a truck of runners left on the base of this series. The problem in Match 5 was due to lack of base players, but they had runners in second and third place with an exit for Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun and Jesus Aguilar.
In the sixth game, however, Aguilar threw a two-run outing for the Brewers with a two-run double. Mike Moustakas followed with a left-left double, and then Erik Kratz brought Moustakas home.
It had to be as if a huge weight was being raised from the collective vaults of the offensive players. Orlando Arcia and Lorenzo Cain also stood out in the heat as Ryan Braun walked.
Something important happened at the second run as well. Yelich doubled. He was 3 years old for 21 with zero extra-base shots before in the NLCS. If the Brewers will continue to play, they need the MVP soon appointed to play as a.
Both examples of good news turned out to be temporary. The Brewers finished with 5 for 16 with RISP and left 11 men on base. Yelich has not had success other than double. More baby steps! And they won. It's always good.
Ryu easily had his worst outing of the year
In 15 starts in the regular season, Hyun-Jin Ryu averaged 1.97 / EER. In 11 1/3 in the playoffs, he had already given two points.
He awarded five earned runs on seven hits in just three innings of work. He also walked two.
Ryu has not even allowed more than three earned runs in a single start this season. Here is his breakdown of the races allowed per start, including the playoffs:
3 ER: Three times
2 ER: Four times
1 ER: Three times
0 ER: Seven times
The Brewers crushed his ball while remaining behind. They saw him too well and he paid for it. As a result, the Brewers were able to set up the game as they wished.
A big decision at the origin of Knebel's first fight since high school
Despite a 5-1 lead over two innings, the Brewers needed to get Corey Knebel for two high-leverage withdrawals in the fifth inning. He did not work too hard, so the plan for Craig Counsell was to get another round of it. As such, when the Brewers had two riders on the base with two outs, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts intentionally arched Arcia to get to Knebel. For a second, it seemed that Domingo Santana, the Counsell's attacker, would be used. Instead, Knebel took the attack.
Unsurprisingly, he has scratched. In fact, after two shots, Alex Wood, the reliever of the Dodgers, decided not to waste his time and threw a ball in the air. Knebel did not look great (I'll be nice) and we could even see him laugh a little.
Knebel would then reward Counsell with a scoreless sixth.
Battle of the bulls
The Brewers series has received a lot of attention and it's for a good reason. The Dodgers' relief corps this post-season, however, had been incredible. At dawn of the sixth game, the Dodgers relievers were taxed with an average of additional points of 1.11 in 32 innings and one-third. It's the domination we expected from the Brewers.
In the sixth game, the Dodgers scorer was able to qualify for three innings without scoring and keeping the game tight.
In this game, it was particularly important to keep the Brewers off the board for a while. This meant that Counsell had to use Knebel for 1 2/3 innings, Jeremy Jeffress for one inning and Corbin Burnes for two. It's something to watch who will be heading to the seventh game. If some of the big Brewers guns are gbaded, we must retroactively credit the marker to keep the match 6 closed.
However …
No Hader
The seventh and eighth rounds of insurance were the reason why Counsell did not use left-handed ace Josh Hader. Hader has not started since the fourth game and he will enjoy a three-day rest for the seventh game. We've seen it go north by 40 shots during a three-run game in this series. He now becomes perhaps the biggest X factor for the Brewers in Game 7. If starter Jhoulys Chacin is able to throw well in six innings, Hader may well end the game.
Insurance races can also be charged to the Dodgers. One marked on a wild pitch with two outs and the other could have been avoided. Brian Dozier failed to duel a ball at the end of the eighth. The next hitter was Aguilar and he managed a single with RBI.
Thu 7 coming Saturday
Now, with the series tied to three games each, it all comes down to the seventh game and it's such a beautiful phrase. It has been an exceptional series with many "wow" moments. We will probably see a little more. The game will be on FS1 again, this time at 8:09 pm. AND, which is 7:09 in Milwaukee. You can broadcast it on fuboTV (try for free). It's also a Saturday, so they'll be in the parking lot at Miller Park for hours.
The Brewers have not gone in a row since 2011. The Dodgers have been for six years in a row. In the winning draw games (match 5 in NLDS or match 7 in the next two rounds), they went to 1-2. Last season, they were 0-1 and that was the world series. They won match 6 to stay alive.
Does it matter? I would probably not say, but it's a part of "everyone's share". Some people think that is the case and that it could be of importance.
Fortunately and finally, it's the first time that the winning card game is played.
