Saturday was a big day for the 2018 Breeders' Cup favorites, especially on the second of two busy days of horse racing at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The favorites have won the last three races, and Accelerate has won the $ 6 million Breeders' Cup Clbadic.
Accelerate was a favorite of the 5-2 Clbadic and earned his name with a great race to overtake Gunnevera and Thunder Snow.
The pitch for the clbadic was weakened when Justify, winner of the Triple Crown, retired in July. An ankle injury prevented the champion from competing for the grand slam of thoroughbred racing.
Previously, Enable was a cash favorite in the $ 4-million Turf on Saturday, and had to hold a Magical charge in the far right to capture the race for a mile and a half.
In the $ 2 million Distaff, Monomy Girl was a 2-1 favorite and won a 1½ mile race, earning her fifth Grade 1 victory.
"She ran as she was training. She was training like a monster and she was running like a monster " trainer Brad Cox told Monomy Girl. "She is a special filly, one of a kind, an amazing filly."
Of the 14 winners on Friday and Saturday, two were recurring winners in 2017. Stormy Liberal won the 5½-long sprint, and Roy H won the sprint long-6 on Saturday.
