Tavares a free player without restriction: report
The NHL free agency begins Sunday, and the center John Tavares is available.
Tavares, 27, could have signed an eight-year contract to stay with the New York Islanders before midnight on June 30, but he did not, according to Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet. That means he's now available to sign a seven-year contract with any of the 31 NHL teams.

Tavares is not the only big center available. Perron returning to Saint-Louis: report
Forward David Perron who collected 66 points (16 goals, 50 badists) in 70 games in the NHL and led the Vegas Golden Knights. He was selected among the St. Louis Blues in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and returns to St. Louis for a four-year contract, according to Friedman
Goalkeeper Carter Hutton who has played the past two seasons with the Blues, will sign a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers, according to Friedman.
Goalkeeper Anton Khudobin who has played the past two seasons with the Bruins, will sign Darren Dreger of TSN has signed a two-year contract

Striker Thomas Vanek who played for the Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets the last season, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, according to Dreger. Vanek spent most of the 2016-17 season with the Red Wings before being traded to the Florida Panthers
Center Derek Ryan expected to sign a three-year contract with the Flames from Calgary, according to TSN. . Ryan would join Bill Peters, who had coached him over the past three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes.
