Denis Ten, Olympic bronze medalist in men's figure skating in 2014, died Thursday at the age of 25 after being stabbed in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Ten were taken to the hospital after the attack. Russian media reported that two men had tried to steal mirrors in Mr. Ten's car.

Born in Almaty, Ten was part of the Korean minority in Kazakhstan. He moved to Moscow to train at a level higher than 10 years, then to Southern California to work with the best American coach Frank Carroll.

He won a surprise silver medal at the world championships in 2013, then a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia

This year he had hoped to succeed at the Olympic Games in South Korea, his ancestral home. But embarrbaded by injuries to his ankle, back and hip, he finished 27th.

"The way his blade touches the ice and the way he moves his body through the space on the ice is very individual." Lori Nichol, choreographer him, said in 2015. " And his pbadion is not just a disposable pbadion. It's that deep and deep pbadion, and when he lets her out, I've sometimes been reduced to tears by the practice because, oh my God, I'm blown away, I've worked at a high level and I've never seen anyone like that.
