The ESPY awards are usually a light evening filled with jokes, designed simply to celebrate the year in sports.

Wednesday night, there were some of that. Danica Patrick, the first woman to host the ESPY, did her best in scripted dialogues and skits.

But these moments of lightness have taken precedence over more serious topics, like Jim Kelly, a former Hall of Famer. and the survivors of Larry Nbadar's badual badault took center stage at a moving ceremony in Los Angeles

The survivors of Nbadar's badual badault have closed the show undoubtedly the most powerful moment in the history of # 39; ESPY. Almost the entire scene was filled with women, including 141 in total, to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on behalf of all the victims of Nbadar's badual abuse.

"It's a privilege to get up here with my surviving sisters as we represent hundreds of others who are not with us tonight," said Sarah Klein, who is the first known victim of Nbadar (h / t Julie Miller of Vanity Fair ). "Make no mistake, here we are on this stage to present an image for the world to see, a portrait of survival, a new vision of courage … Telling our stories of abuse again and again in the graphic detail is

"We sacrifice privacy, we are judged and scrutinized, and it is grueling and painful but it is the moment. We need to be more concerned about the safety of children than the reputation of adults.

Aly Raisman congratulated Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, who sentenced Nbadar.

"You have helped us rediscover the power we have. … If only one adult had listened, believed and acted, the people standing in front of you on that stage would never have met him. … To all survivors, do not let anyone rewrite your story. The truth is of importance, you count, and you are not alone, "said Raisman.

Nbadar, a former state physician from Michigan and State gymnastics United States, was sentenced to 100 years in prison, child abuse and badgraphy

Kelly, whose cancer has returned a third Once in March, was the recipient of the Jimmy V Award.

"I came up with a saying: Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for his future," Kelly said. 19659020), New York Post .

"When I look in this arena and talk to people and look at people, it's not necessary to be a Russell Wilson, an Aaron Rodgers to make a difference.

"My children, my friends, when they came to see me, not once did they have a frown," Kelly said later. "So, I encourage everyone, if you have someone who is suffering it does not have to be cancer, it might be something that does not have a good day, it could be your mother or your father, it could be your grandparents-what you tell them and the smile you have on your face, that could be the difference in making them the next day.
