Aaron Gordon remains with the only NBA team he's ever known. The former Dunk Contest champion and World Number 4 would have accepted a four-year, $ 84 million contract with the same night's Magic LeBron took his talents to Hollywood. Of course, it would have been silly to let someone like Gordon go out. You know what else is silly? Having Mo Bamba, Jonathan Isaac, Nikola Vucevic, Bismack Biyombo and Gordon on the same list. It is essentially four centers and a fifth player (Gordon) who should probably play more often at the center. Of course, Vucevic will probably not be re-signed, and Biyombo will likely be out of the team in two seasons, but that still leaves three young players (Gordon, Bamba and Isaac) who are at best a clumsy set together and probably should never share the yard.
For Gordon, it's time to think about what you want your career to be. Gordon has the potential to be a bit like a Draymond baby, a small five-ball with an incredible athleticism that will chase big loose on the court when his team decides to spread things. The play center is a grind, I understand, so Gordon could have at least tried to attach to a spacier team that starts another big one and finishes small. Who knows what his free agency was, and the most compelling teams did not have ceiling space, but I wish Gordon thought more about signing elsewhere. I do not know how it will ever reach its ceiling in Orlando, considering that a group of seven feet is currently on its way. At some point, I think both parties will be better off once they separate.
