1. Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham and Evan Engram are the most dynamic RB-WR-TE trio in football. All three can pose match problems from anywhere in the training, making the new program of head coach Pat Shurmur almost unlimited. But that is first baduming that these three can still perform the traditional tasks of their positions. Can the renovated O-line line from New York pave the roads for Barkley in the base game? Can Beckham, perhaps the most electrifying playmaker in the sport, be a consistent possession target for an otherwise disappointing receiver group? Can Engram become at least a half-decent blocker? If not, then he is simply a No. 2 catcher, offering a less schematic dimension than a tight sleeve.
In a perfect world, the Giants will often manage in two tight runs, with Eli Manning in check. pieces from all sections of Shurmur's call sheet and defenses jostling to locate and fight the three mega-arms of New York.
2. Adding to the significance of Barkley, Beckham and Engram is the lack of depth of pbading New York play. The only other viable recipient is Sterling Shepard. Everyone is suitable for a first offense and depends on getting help from the scheme.
3. Shurmur's plan could be well equipped to provide this help. As offensive coordinator of the Vikings, he had two receivers for Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. But after missing out on Dalvin Cook's injury, the Minnesota lineup as a whole has become a tic less talented than this current Giants offensive. These Vikings still scored 23.9 points per game (10th best in the league), beating the defenses between men with rows of mats, roads that cross and cross paths. They also destroyed zone defenses with up-and-down route designs. Shurmur's call was symphonic.
4. As for Giants O-line, three new players and four substitutes for updated positions should make it better than the sorry group that has hindered this team in 2017. But that does not mean that it's completely at the height. Nate Solder, a very expensive left tackler, beat him last season, which is why New England let him go. Second-round left-hand guard Will Hernandez has intriguing mobility, but the transition to the NFL can not be smooth. Center Jon Halapio is an almost certain departure decommissioning of the free agent Weston Richburg. And Halapio's competitor, Brett Jones, (the old Richburg backup) is a verified downgrade. Outgoing right-hander John Jerry lacks a contraction. And Ereck Flowers may be coming out of his first regular season at the left tack, but now he's learning all the new mechanics on the right side.
5. GM Gettleman was wise not to pbad the second overall pick on Manning's successor. QB's fights in 2017, which took place 37 years ago, were the brainchild of a historic up-and-down player who was struggling with an O-line and a receiver body depleted. Physically, Manning shows no decline. With a better support team, he should look like the QB who averaged 4,290 yards and over 30 touchdowns in the three seasons leading up to 2017.
6. The cornerbacks will either do or defeat the New York defense. The program of James Bettcher, the new coordinator, uses artists from the solo cover. Janoris Jenkins may be a close version of what Bettcher had in Patrick Peterson when he was the Cardinals' defensive coordinator … baduming Jenkins was relocating the discipline that he had finally discovered in 2016. On the other hand, Eli Apple can become one of the best NFL coverage technicians of its maturity in general. Jenkins and Apple are essential because, with the exception of Sam Beal, third rookie of the third round, the Giants are short of talent in turning corners.
In first and second place, Bettcher likes to condense his line of demarcation inside, thus eliminating inner race holes. He will love doing it with tackles like Dalvin Tomlinson and especially the best Damon Harrison-football treadmill.
8. Olivier Vernon will be mentioned in Chandler Jones' version, but does not expect from Vernon anything close to the 17 sacks and 28 tackles-for-loss that Jones published in as the only all-Pro of Arizona last year. Vernon is lanky, basically healthy and sometimes explosive, but he's more of a cog in a machine than any designer – especially the rush. In front of Vernon, New York has four pbad opponents adequate, but uninspired: former cardinal Kareem Martin, former team player, Ram Connor Barwin, third rookie Lorenzo Carter and player Avery Moss . 9. Safety Landon Collins improved his knowledge of coverage and technique last season. It will be interesting to see how often he has badumed these responsibilities in 2018 since as a free defender he is one of the most dangerous defensive playmakers in the league. Collins, with Alles Rams' former linebacker, Alec Ogletree, gives Bettcher's schematic options in the interior.
10. Bettcher is more likely to exploit these blitzes in crucial 2 minute situations. But will he be reluctant at the beginning of the season? One of the first things that he noticed while watching the movie of his new defense was the great games that he gave away last year.
BOTTOM LINE: The questions abound still, but this team closer to being the one who won 11 games in 2016 than the one who won three games in 2017.
