The Giants cut two of their season-opening starting linemen before playing their ninth game.

Compensatory picks are awarded based on a complicated formula weighing production of free-agent additions and losses from the previous offseason. The Giants signed Omameh and left tackle Nate Solder while letting go of Justin Pugh, Weston Richburg and D.J. Fluker.
While Pugh and Richburg signed mbadive contracts, Fluker, who is starting for the Seahawks on 1-year, $ 1.5 million contract, is the trade-off for Omameh that hurts the Giants.
Omameh struggled in both run- and pbad-blocking and was the lowest-ranking of the offensive linemen who started the season by Pro Football Focus. He has played for five organizations since entering the league as an undrafted rookie in 2013.
The Giants will be about $ 3 million in captivity for $ 20 million. Omameh became expendable when the Giants asked Jamon Brown off waivers from the Rams last week.
"That's the side of this business and we know it's all about it," Greco said. "It's an unfortunate thing when you have a teammate in your room leave, but we've got a game to win.
Brown likely to become the 10th offensive Giants offensive to play and possibly the 49ers on Monday. Offensive lines typically improve over time with chemistry and cohesion.

"You can argue that they're dealing with their roster, because of injury sometimes and sometimes it's getting better players," Shurmur said.
"There are some short-term reasons, sometimes it's about the player getting released."
