As the Lakers expand their options beyond Kawhi Leonard, Does Damian Lillard want to team up with LeBron James?
With LeBron James' signature, the acquisition of another star seems inevitable for the Los Angeles Lakers. Maybe it's the off season, maybe the next, but it'll happen. But things can come off Leonard, due to the price demanded by the Spurs, and Chris Sheridan reported that the Lakers could look for someone from a list of other stars, including Portland Trail goaltender Blazers, Damian Lillard
. In the past, he had discussed Kyrie Irving's desire to be traded against the Cavaliers during the off season. So with that as root, with a meeting with Paul Allen, owner of Trail Blazers in the middle of last season to discuss team direction and a follow-up meeting request after the season, Lillard could talk about play elsewhere
But in response to a question from a fan on Twitter, it's not what he did.
Not responding at all could have been the best thing to do, or a long-term commitment to Portland would have been enough. It's easy to read too much in a comment on Twitter, but Lillard has prompted speculation that he would be a "happy camper" if the Trail Blazers exchanged him.
If the Lakers do not want to part with a combination of Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball? and several draft picks for Leonard, they will not do it for Lillard either. Lillard's situation is also very different, as he is three years old and over $ 89 million has remained on his contract with no possibility of withdrawal. Unless Portland wants to take the bad Luol Deng contract from the Lakers, it would be impossible to align the money.
The mix of players in Portland does not work, in terms of the playoffs deep. But C.J. McCollum, Lillard's back mate, is a much more likely candidate to be traded.
