Islanders, on the other hand, remained cool, calm and collected (at least on the surface) throughout the process, an adjustment attitude undoubtedly influenced by the new hockey czar Lou Lamoriello. He was always considered a longhot Tavares would leave the organization that selected him No. 1 overall in 2009 – one that became significantly more attractive last month with Lamoriello's hires and l 39; coach Barry Trotz. But the chances of keeping the captain in Brooklyn are dwindling with every pbading minute, especially now that Tavares's camp has skipped Saturday's deadline to transfer an eighth year to his contract with the Islands.
Tavares returned to his home in Toronto on Thursday. where he spent the weekend discussing the future with Brisson and his family. And although it seems unlikely that Tavares wants to drag the drama, it is possible that the NHL stays beyond Sunday.

The Rumor: In the most important update of July 1, [19659011] It seems that the midnight deadline was in fact an indication that the Tavares camp is leaning towards signing elsewhere. The Islanders could still receive a "Hail Mary shot" with a "Lou Lamoriello surprise", but with their biggest trading chip, fans should prepare for the worst.

Mom is the word of Tavares camp
The rumor: There is no There was no update during the night of Tavares, and publicly no team has been ruled out yet. As noted below, no news is bad news especially for islanders, who do not seem to be fighting in a difficult battle.

At the end of the delay, did the islands come out?
Rumor: The Islanders' biggest advantage over other contenders in Tavares was their ability to last up to eight years, but that deadline came at midnight Saturday without an agreement. It is possible that the parties have agreed terms before the stop with plans to announce when the free agency begins. It is also possible that Islanders lost their best currency and that they barely hold on.

The Maple Leafs Become Creative
The Rumor: Tavares Was "Very Impressed" by the Field Produced by the Leafs Braintrust led by general manager Kyle Dubas and coach Mike Babbad. No doubt, they have the most to sell to the Toronto native with a young core up, and the prevailing wisdom is that the Leafs could be first. If that is the case, there is speculation Tavares would sign a one – year contract under a handshake agreement that an eight – year extension would follow when he qualifies for it. January 1st.
