Preview of the week 7

Here's what you missed from CBS Fantasy yesterday:

the Cardinals have changed

I do not know what this change might entail, but for now, the Cardinals have to do something. Rookie Josh Rosen has had his worst game so far, completing 21 of 39 goals for 194 yards and three selections, with only one touchdown, but must remain true to him as he struggles, given his talent and of his pedigree. The obvious answer – and a coach Steve Wilks did not refuse Thursday after the match – would be to get rid of offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

McCoy's last three saves were hardly inspiring: the Broncos placed 27th as offensive coordinator last season, while the Chargers were better than 17th in their last three seasons as a coach -chief. The Cardinals are now ranked 31st in scoring and last in yards, and their attack has made David Johnson almost completely ineffective. He has an average of only 3.2 yards per race, and Thursday 's game is a good illustration of the problems he faced: too many players rush in the middle in stacked cartons, only three targets and too few of them. opportunities to play in the space.

Of course, there is no silver bullet for what hurts the cardinals' offensive, because they are not overflowing with talent. But a better system would help, and this is the most obvious place to expect improvement. If nothing else, things can not possibly get worse. I do not know if there is hope for anyone here, but I will be offering cheap deals for Johnson in the coming days. He is too talented to not be better than that.

Update: The Cardinals fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Friday, promoting quarterback coach Byron Leftwich at the station. Leftwich is a highly regarded coach who can, hopefully, reverse this moribund offense. According to reports, the frustration badociated with Johnson's use played a role in McCoy's shots. So let's hope that Leftwich can return to his season. Johnson is a good low-price candidate as a result of this decision – hey, that can not get worse, is not it?

Phillip Lindsay led all RB Broncos with a snap of his fingers

The season was almost split between Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, obvious recesses, and Lindsay, who split the rest, but that was not the case on Thursday. Booker only played six free-kicks, as the Broncos rarely needed to rely on their pbading game. But that's the most remarkable use of Freeman: he only played 18 times, compared to 35 for Lindsay.

Before you're too excited about what it might mean for Lindsay's future, note that Freeman suffered an ankle injury late in the game, which probably explains at least part of the gap. However, in keeping with the trend of the season, Lindsay was once again the most effective back of the team, scoring 14 times in the 90-yard and one touchdown run; Freeman also had a touchdown, with 37 yards in 13 races.

There is no reason to believe that this represents a fundamental change in the way the Broncos will use their backs, but it is noteworthy that Vance Joseph told reporters that he wanted to use Lindsay and Freeman more a few weeks ago. Maybe that's a sign of what they will look like when they do not play from behind, as they have been.

TNF's other notes

  • Ricky Seals-Jones left with an injury … Seals-Jones wore a helmet on his right arm during the third quarter of Thursday's game and could not return due to his injury. The stretch is not yet known, but as Seals-Jones has not managed to overtake 60 yards in six of his seven games, it will not be worthwhile to be hiding in most formats are missing time.
  • Emmanuel Sanders continues to play big games … Sanders hit a long touchdown and pitched for another Thursday, giving him five points on the season. He also accumulated at least 96 yards in four of his seven games and averaged 86.1 yards per game in 2018, the second-best mark of his career. He left the game late due to an ankle injury, but with three extra days to recover before the eighth week, we hope that it will not be limited.

Other NFL notes

  • Dalvin Cook (hamstring) did not train on Thursday … Initially, there were reports that Cook had practiced on Thursday, but it was downgraded to "DNP" in the official practice report. This is all the more worrying that Cook had practiced in full on Wednesday and that he had several setbacks with this injury. We will monitor his status with an eagle eye, but for now, prepare an emergency plan in case he comes back. Latavius Murray would obviously be on the list if Cook misses the time.

Update:

Cook has not yet trained Friday, and it looks like it will be a long fight to return to the 7th week. Murray should start, and at this point, Cook's owners must keep him. It's a frustrating process, but you can not cut it. The advantage is too high. But the Vikings were as cautious as you could hope with Cook and he still has not healed properly. Let's hope that week 8 against the Saints is the target, but I'm pessimistic.

  • Isaiah Crowell (foot) did not practice Thursday … Crowell has now missed the first two days of practice this week and must be considered legitimately doubtful for the 7th week against the Vikings. Bilal Powell would see an increased workload if Crowell was left out.
  • Ryan Tannehill (shoulder) may not be back for the 8th week … Although surgery does not appear to be an option, the Dolphins will likely be deprived of Tannehill for at least two other matches, while ESPN reported Thursday that Tannehill would face a "tough battle" to play Thursday night in the week 8. It has already been discarded. for week 7, with Brock Osweiler ready to make his second start.
  • Theo Riddick (knee) did not train on Thursday … The cluttered Lions background might be a little more manageable during week 7, as Riddick has not yet practiced this week. Kerryon Johnson would see an increased workload in the pbading game if Riddick was out and deserved to start in all formats.
  • T.J. Yeldon (ankle, foot) was back to training … Yeldon missed Wednesday's training, but it seems like it's only a precaution, as it was not limited on Thursday. It looks like he'll be ready for this week's game against the Texans.
  • Allen Robinson (groin) did not train on Thursday … Now it's time to worry. Robinson was limited on Wednesday, so it's obvious we're going in the wrong direction. Friday's practice will be enlightening, but do not be surprised if Robinson is not there on Sunday. Taylor Gabriel would be a Fantasy WR debutant with Robinson.
  • Ted Ginn (knee) was placed on the reserve of the wounded … The Saints had apparently hoped to handle the injury with Ginn, who had been injured early in Week 4, but it turns out that was not enough. This creates a great opportunity for Tre Quan Smith and Cameron Meredith, both of whom have potential for escape for the second half of the season.
  • Mohamed Sanu (hip), Calvin Ridley (ankle) did not train on Thursday … Well, if Julio Jones can not get into the end zone now … Sanu and Ridley have been unable to train all week, although Falcons coach Dan Quinn has expressed an optimism about both before Thursday's training, so we'll see if they'll get there on Friday.
  • Will Fuller (hip) was limited to practice … Fuller is no stranger to being limited to practice, but in this case, it's a new injury that makes her remarkable. He had hamstring problems all season, but was largely successful in supporting them. We'll see if it stays the same for week 7 with this injury.
