02 JUL – From January 1 to May 31, 2018, 20 regions reported to the national integrated measles and rubella surveillance system 1716 cases of measles (up to 397 in May), of which 4 deaths. Molise is the only region that has not reported a case during the period indicated. 84% of cases were reported by 5 regions (Sicily, Lazio, Calabria, Campania and Lombardy), of which Sicily reported the highest incidence. The median age of cases was 25 years old.
There were 346 reported cases in children under five, including 107 children in the year. About 91.9% of the cases were unvaccinated and 5% had received only one dose. Nearly half of the cases (49%) developed at least one complication, while 59.2% of the cases were hospitalized. 68 cases were reported among health workers.
