A young patient with leukemia dies at Trieste hospital: probable cause of death

An attack of measles would have cost the life of a 23-year-old girl from Friuli Venezia Giulia suffering from leukemia, in a hospital in Trieste. Hospitalized 40 days ago, the young man was treated with different treatments for leukemia at Cattinara Hospital. The condition of the boy is aggravated as a result of severe respiratory failure.

Subsequently, he was placed in cardiopulmonary bypbad and transferred to ICU, a service with a machine that allowed him to survive. The young man died yesterday. The case is judged by the same health professionals very rare if not unique. The young man would have shown signs of healing leukemia but would have become immunocompromised. Also affected by pneumonia, he would not have resisted a measles attack. Further investigation will be done to determine the causes of death.

In intensive care, the victim was treated by a team of cardiologists, infectiologists, hematologists and pulmonologists who met daily.
