To be clear, Mike Gundy is quite often not an admirable person. His "I'm a man, I'm 40!" Was really trying to intimidate a columnist who had simply done her job. And he continues to try to bully reporters into not asking for difficult questions (instead of, say, being "man" enough to answer them.)
But this is at least fun to watch.
And here's a transcript:
There's a lot here, but first some background. Oklahoma State losses, but Saturday night he led the unranked Cowboys to a 38-35 win over No. 6 Texas.
Tempers had flared between Gundy and Texas coach Tom Herman in the game:
Gundy made peace after the game by explaining he was simply trying to keep the peace:
And then he delivered this *fart noise * rant about *fart noise * Twitter. *Loooong fart noise. *
Gundy is not entirely wrong here, but it is a little bit more complicated than ever. 2) Russian bots and 3) people pointing out the President of the United States' bad spelling / grammar / ability to think in a remotely logical or empathetic way. I'm not picking up a whole lotta "hey, I'm out here working out the welfare system by not looking for gigs but rather firing off tweets about college football" vibes.
Here's a pretty simple rule: It's wrong to tweet AT college athletes if you're going to be negative, and you're a bad person if you do.
But chatting about your favorite team with other fans is the essence of what is a fan is all about. Gundy to go beyond "Do not care what they say!" – a totally reasonable take – to "they're degenerates!" – shows the lack of savvy.
Truth is, a good number of people who have been criticizing Cornelius were actually probably life-long Oklahoma State fans, there before Gundy arrived and badured to be there after he leaves, the true, in many ways, stewards of the program. And some of the stuff they said may have been warranted – and even nuanced, or, just maybe !, right.
But we're all happy that Mike Gundy's ability to be happy is right, right? It gave us this.
*Fart noise. *
