Garcia was a mbadive betting favorite in his lightweight title unification bout with Robert Easter Jr. The two men were undefeated, but Garcia's reputation as a Power Puncher technique tipped the scales in his favor. Garcia proved that bookkeepers were wise.
Easter wore a smile while heading for the ring. He stated in advance that he was confident of winning. He had that confidence on his face.
Garcia's ring walked with a mbadive entourage with live music. His behavior was calm and joyful as he was at a family party. The L.A. crowd supported the California native, Garcia.
Easter came out aggressively in the first round. He's not usually a fast starter, which shows how much he took this fight seriously. Garcia remained relaxed and finally captured the center of the ring. Garcia used his jab well and pushed back Easter. Garcia took it in the second half.
Easter attempted to attack Garcia's body early in the second round. He scored with two long left hands, but Garcia jumped on him and sent him tottering. Unfortunately, he did not follow his attack and Easter used his jab throughout the stretch. It was another tight round, but Easter did enough to win it.
Both men were cautious at the beginning of the third. Easter turned to the outside, while Garcia tried to slip inside his reach. It was a slow turn until Garcia pressed the action and dropped Easter with a left hook directly to the Easter jaw. Easter has risen and survived the round.
In the fourth, Easter held Garcia the first time that he came near. Garcia continued to grab hooks around the Easter guard. Garcia finished the last 30 seconds by targeting the body of Easter
Easter tried to restore his jab in the fifth round. He played his best lap since the second. However, Garica landed several hits in the stretch that hurt Easter. Easter showed signs of life, but he lost the round again.
Easter opened the sixth with a beautiful right right hand. Garcia's level of activity was low during the first half of the turn, but he landed a square of left hook on the Easter jaw. Garcia was beaten by small pushes but took the round. Garcia lit it in the last 30 seconds and surpbaded Easter to steal the round.
In the seventh, Garcia beat for half the lap. His lack of activity was a bit strange. He allowed Easter to stay in the fight. Once again, Garcia tumbled down the stretch, but he gave too much of the round.
Easter kept Garcia with his jab for the first minute of the eighth. Garcia tried to drop his hands, but Easter ran most of the time. Garcia had problems cutting the ring, but Easter wasted a lot of energy. Easter sacrificed the round with his refusal to fight.
The ninth started with Garcia swaying for fences. He trapped Easter on the ropes and landed several shots. They traded hooks in the center of the ring, and Garcia got the best of the action. Easter held his own and received several punches, but he broke with his strategy. Things went the way of Garcia. He beat Easter in this round.
Garcia held momentum in the 10th. The pace has slowed, but Easter has come out of the fight. He just circled outside and did not offer much offense. He looked exhausted. Garcia completely surpbaded Easter.
It did not happen much on the 11th. Easter needed a big round to get back to the fight, and he did not understand it. Garcia pinned Easter on the ropes and hit Easter on the body. The face of Easter looked pained and beaten. Garcia seemed relatively cool.
Garcia came out to fight in the 12th. Easter is not. He continued backing out while Garcia pursued him. Garcia landed several left and right combos that landed on Easter's head. Easter did not throw a lot to Garcia. Garcia completely surpbaded Easter for the last third of the fight.
The judges were unanimous in their decision. Garcia won the fight comfortably on the scorecards of the three judges. Easter has been well beaten for the first half of the fight, but he has never had the advantage over Garcia. Garcia's strokes were harder, and his activity level increased throughout the fight while Easter declined. He is a skilled boxer with incredible stamina. Garcia did what he was supposed to do.
Garcia unified the lightweight title with this win. Vasiliy Lomachenko would be an incredible test for Garcia at light weight, but Garcia told Showtime's Jim Gray that he wanted Errol Spence Jr. next. Garcia is ready to switch to welterweight for Spence. Garcia looked good against Easter, but the fight against Spence at welterweight is an entirely different ball game. Garcia is an excellent lightweight but it is arguable when he switches to welterweight.
