BALTIMORE (AP) – As the Baltimore Ravens play another game, they will have had five weeks without a win.
After nine consecutive weeks of football to get there, the tired and sore Ravens will gladly take a week off before attempting to end a three-game losing streak.
Baltimore (4-5) will use this free time to rest, regroup and evaluate what is wrong with an inexplicable skid after a 4-2 start.
"We're going to watch everything, as we always do during the week off," said coach John Harbaugh after his 23-16 loss against Sunday in Pittsburgh. "I think the most important thing we need to do is to be healthy and stay cool."
Ronnie Stanley (ankle) and James Hurst (back) will certainly help an attack that started the season with a 12-12 win by converting reds into touchdowns in the first three games. Lately, however, these 20 chances have resulted in goals.
On two occasions in the first period, the Ravens penetrated deep into Pittsburgh territory and had to settle for their goals.
"It's frustrating because in this type of game, there are not as many games and as many opportunities, and it's obvious that scoring is the name of the game," quarterback Joe Flacco said.
In the first period, Pittsburgh scored two touchdowns and the Ravens scored two goals. This put Baltimore in a hole he could not recover.
"It helps if you can start it," Harbaugh said.
The Ravens have not yet set their course. On Sunday, they finished with 61 yards rushing – including two attempts for 4 yards after halftime.
"I think we can reverse the situation," said wide receiver John Brown. Brown was Flacco's favorite player at the start of the season, but his efficiency was canceled by frequent double teams.
"Things are coming in. We need to find a way to do it right," said Brown.
But a troubled offense is only one of Baltimore's problems.
The NFL's most dominant defense suddenly became vulnerable to the pbad, especially the underground roads that lengthen the aisles and turn open throws into big winners.
"They kept us on the ground for a lot of long drives, just to crush us," said defender Brent Urban. "You can not win like that."
Since they cleared the Titans 21-0 in Week 6, the Ravens have conceded 82 points in three losses. Sixty-seven of those points were played in six periods until half-time of the loss on Sunday.
"It's not up to our defensive standard," defensive back Anthony Levine said. "We know what our standard is, and it's not that."
While the Ravens are struggling against the finish and risk missing out on the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, it's only natural that Harbaugh starts asking questions about job security. He said Sunday that he was not afraid of being fired.
"I have never been concerned about keeping a job," he said. "It has always been for me to do the job."
