Redskins players thrilled with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix trade

The Redskins acquired Ha Ha Clinton-Dix from the Green Bay Packers Tuesday afternoon, bolstering an already strong defense with a Pro Bowl-quality safety.

As the news broke on Twitter, so did the reactions of Redskins players. Suffice it to say, they’re pretty happy.

The first response came from Mason Foster, who made good use of the GIF keyboard to accurately sum up his surprise.

Other players followed suit, Josh Norman particularly confident the Clinton-Dix trade bodes well for Washington.

#PickCity. We could get used to that.

The Redskins and the rest of D.C. certainly have reason to be excited, Washington getting a player with career numbers which include 14 interceptions and 390 tackles. And paired with D.J. Swearinger, Clinton-Dix should have ample opportunity to make impact plays.

DJ Swearinger and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix have this in common: They’re both playing really, really well at safety this season.

But here’s something else the two DBs and now-teammates share: An appreciation for Sean Taylor.

Redskins fans are familiar with Swearinger’s love for the ‘Skins legend. Among other things, he tapes his facemask like Taylor used to on gamedays and wears 36 — the digits Taylor wore as a rookie — as a way to honor him.

Turns out, Clinton-Dix is a mbadive fan of Washington’s beloved defender, too.

In a 2014 interview with Milwaukee’s Journal Sentinel, he explained that if he could have dinner with anyone, Taylor would be his choice.

“He was my inspiration,” Clinton-Dix said. “I looked up to him. I idolized him. He’s a heck of a player. Man, he was a beast. I liked him a lot. To see him pbad at such a young age, it was sad to me like he was my brother or something. And I didn’t even know him.”

Upon arriving in D.C., Clinton-Dix will have to find a new number to rock; Taylor’s 21 is off limits these days.

Playing for Taylor’s old squad, though, will surely be cool for him. And now both he and Swearinger can show their respect for the All-Pro by locking things down in the Redskins secondary for the rest of the season and maybe beyond.

REDSKINS TALK PODCAST: CLINTON-DIX TRADE EDITION:

The Redskins made a big move to bolster their already surging defense by trading for Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on Thursday just minutes before the NFL Trade Deadline. The move was first reported by NFL Media.

Green Bay will receive a 2019 fourth-round pick in return for Clinton-Dix, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Clinton-Dix should step in and start in place of second-year pro Montae Nicholson. That means Clinton-Dix will play alongside D.J. Swearinger, giving the Redskins two of the top rated 2018 safeties in football in the same secondary.

On the year, Clinton-Dix has three interceptions to go with 27 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. A former Alabama player, Clinton-Dix joins other Crimson Tide alums in the locker room like Jonathan Allen, Shaun Dion Hamilton and Daron Payne.

Much love y’all ?

With the Packers, Clinton-Dix made the Pro Bowl in 2016 and hasn’t missed a game since being selected in the first round of the 2014 Draft. He’s also playing on the final year of his contract, the fifth-year rookie option and is slated for free agency after this season.

Stay tuned for much more.
