Well, it seems that the UFC has fought well after the main event of the UFC Fight Night 134, but that will not happen.
After a dazzling victory at UFC Fight Night 134, Anthony Smith (29 -13 MMA, 6-3 UFC) volunteered to fight again in two weeks against perpetual contender Alexander Gustafsson (18 -4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) at UFC 227 in Los Angeles. However, several UFC officials told MMAjunkie that Gustafsson – who needed an opponent after the scheduled enemy Volkan Oezdemir sank himself because of a fracture of the nose – was also dismissed due to an injury.
The nature of the injury has not been revealed and a timetable for the return of the Swede has not been established immediately. Moments Sports Management, which represents Gustafsson, issued a statement to MMAjunkie.
"Alex Gustafsson came out of UFC 227 with a minor injury," the statement said. "The injury occurred last week.Since that time, we are working closely with the UFC doctors, our doctors in Sweden and the experts from the UFC Performance Institute. been informed that Alex has a minor injury, and he will not be allowed to compete at UFC 227. If Alex had been fit to fight, we were ready to face Khalil Rountree or anyone else who was UFC had asked us, including (Daniel) Cormier to the heavyweight.
"Alex will fight again very soon. He will give his side of the story shortly. We do not care who is the opponent.
Gustafsson, 31, is the No. 5 last ranked light heavyweight US TODAY Sports / MMAjunkie. However, he has not fought since Glover Teixeira's victory in May 2017.
UFC 227 will take place on August 4 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The main card is broadcast on pay-per-view television after the preliminary rounds on FS1 and UFC Fight Pbad.
