Action of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Sunday has two parts: Spain against Russia and Croatia against Denmark in the round of 16. Check below for match reports, highlights and other highlights.

1 pm ET : Russia, according to current FIFA rankings, caused the biggest surprise in the history of the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup Sunday by beating Spain in eighths final.
The Russians, in front of their home fans, got two shootout saves from goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to win on penalties and qualify for the quarterfinals, where they will play against Croatia or Denmark.

For Spain, this is another disappointing outing of the World Cup. Spain won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but was eliminated in the group stage and in the last 16 in the last two tournaments, respectively.
Spain started first when Sergei Ignashevich's goal against his side gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the 12th minute.

Russia equalized before half-time when Spanish defender Gerard Pique gave a penalty via a handball in the box. Artem Dzyuba converted the penalty.

Spain held the majority of possession (74-26%) and shot 25 balls on the six of Russia, but the Russians were taking the bus defense and resilience prevented the Spaniards from finding the goal and extending the match.

Akinfeev made nine saves through 120 minutes, and two more in the penalty shoot-out in a remarkable performance for Russia.
