Climate activists painted Wednesday a street on Montgomery Street in San Francisco, creating a beautiful mural of patterns and colors.

The mural is part of an event called "The Strike for Climate Justice" which has taken control of the financial district and calls for urgent action against climate change and calls on companies to stop supporting the fuel sector fossils.

"The mural is painted in the street, street by street, across the width of Montgomery Street between Sacramento and Pine Streets," said Mary Spadaro, who observed the painted mural of her office in a Montgomery building. "It's pretty spectacular – someone has had to plan it carefully and measure it – it's amazing how fast they painted that."

The mural presents 14 different motifs, each meant to convey the vision of a "resilient, durable and safe world necessary for survival", according to the website "Strike for Climate Justice".

The demonstrations began at 7 am and should continue until 5 pm At least four major intersections will be blocked throughout the day and motorists are advised to avoid the financial district.

In addition to painting the mural, the protesters also blocked the traffic and stood in front of the banks holding placards asking the banks to divest from the fossil fuel sector and invest only in companies focused on technologies with ecological renewal ", according to KRON-TV.

The posters of the protesters included messages saying "Leave the oil in the ground" and "Resist the big oil".
