It’s Tanney time! Alex Tanney would return to Giants

Head coach Joe Judge indicated on Monday afternoon that the New York Giants will bring in another quarterback as insurance with Daniel Jones’ status uncertain due to his hamstring injury.

The judge also indicated that the Giants intended to act quickly to get that quarterback through COVID-19 testing protocols in time to be available on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The giants apparently did just that, reportedly brought former replacement Alex Tanney back for a visit. So Tanney could start COVID-19 testing now and be eligible by Sunday.

Tanney, of course, spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Giants as a replacement for Eli Manning and then Jones. He only played in one game during that time, completing his only assist.

Tanney, originally undrafted, has been in the league since 2012 with a number of teams.

After spending the spring and summer learning the basics of the offensive system set up by Judge and Jason Garrett, Tanney should be able to update himself quickly.

If Jones can’t play on Sunday, Colt McCoy would start. Clayton Thorson, a 2019 fifth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles who is currently on the practice squad, would be elevated to Game Day as a No.2 quarterback.
