The news of Scott Pioli's sudden departure from the Falcon was abrupt and, in the absence of more information, speculation filled the void.
But the former deputy chief executive told Jeff Schultz of TheAthletic.com that his departure was no sinister, nor any other imminent step.
"I'm fine, my family is fine," said Pioli, "it was my choice and it's time, it's time for what, I do not know yet."
Given the timing of the move (just after the sudden shooting of Jets G.M. Mike Maccagnan), it was easy for people to connect the dots and to think that there was something walking. But Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff said that was not the case.
"It's not for taking another job yet," Dimitroff said. "It's just something Scott and I have been talking about for a while now. We talked about it a year ago at that time and we said we would get back to it once we finished the draft. We have spoken a lot in recent days. Scott wants to look at other things. I do not want to answer for him, but he is in a very good place and we are in a good place. "
Pioli stated that he wished to have another chance to be a GM, after his race with the Chiefs did not finish well and that he was fired as a result of the 2012 season. He left football the following year before joining the Falcons.
