It's time to check Windows Insider settings

[ad_1]

The next feature update for Windows 10, the May 2019 update, will be available at the end of May to the general public. The publication and other recent decisions by Microsoft affect the Windows Insider program.

Microsoft has posted a short, rather encrypted article on the Windows Insider blog, offering users and administrators to check the settings of their Windows Insider program.

Designed to give Windows users and administrators an option to test future versions of Windows, Microsoft uses it as a testing ground for bugs and problems.

get insider preview versions

The Insider for Windows program has four different rings – Skip Forward, Fast, Slow, and Free – that determine the version of Windows 10 available for the device.

Until recently, it meant:

  • Go ahead – Not open all the time, building the next feature update that Microsoft is working on, not the next release.
  • Quick ring – Latest versions of the feature update that will be released soon.
  • Slow ring – Same as fast, but not so many builds and not the most recent ones.
  • Free Preview Ring – Closer to the current version, last test before a version is transmitted to stable systems. Maybe a preview of a cumulative update or a new feature update just before publishing.

The announcement of yesterday changes things:

  • Go ahead – will receive Windows 10 versions 20H1 (Windows 10 2003), Windows 10 version 1909 is ignored.
  • Quick ring – Will also be moved to Windows 10 20H1 and not 19H2.
  • Slow ring – No change.
  • Free Preview Ring – will soon receive the update of May 2019. It is not clear whether the devices will receive cumulative updates from April 2019 first, but since the update will be released next Tuesday, this seems unlikely.

In other words: if you use the fast ringtone, you must switch to the slow ringtone or the preview ringtone if you do not wish to switch to the Windows 10 version next year again.

[..] We plan to move Windows Insiders from the fast ring to 20H1. We will also merge the small group of insiders who have chosen to jump into the Quick Circle. We are looking to make this change in the coming weeks.

Microsoft has not revealed how it plans to test the second feature update in 2019. With the fast ringtone on Windows 10 version 2003, it would return to the slow ringtone to receive the 1909 versions exclusively if the company does not change not things later this year. .

Microsoft plans to publish "19H2 bits" to insiders later this year.

Now, it's your turn: Do you use PC Insiders? What is your experience up to now?
