Jack Black, him from Tenacious D and Rock school fame, will play Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands movie, according to Deadline. Black is joining what within a week has become a stacked production, with Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blancheet and Kevin Hart also set to star in the film.
The film will reunite Black (and Blanchett) with director Eli Roth, who directed The house with a clock in its walls in 2018. “I’m so excited to find Jack again, this time in the check-in booth,” said Roth Deadline. “Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect for bringing him to the big screen.”
After a long stint in development hell following its first announcement in 2015, Lionsgate has made significant strides on the film. The last draft of his screenplay was written by Chernobyl Craig Mazin, who also works on HBO The last of us adaptation. As there is no official date yet, production is still in its infancy. But if you ask us, Black is the perfect fit to play Snarky Claptrap. Not only because of his past film roles, but also because he played a role in games like Brutal legend.
