In an interview with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, General Jack Keane (retired) explained the “failure” of the Biden administration in allowing the Taliban to make advances in Afghanistan after the United States announced a withdrawal of troops. He warned that the Taliban would exert pressure on key cities in the coming weeks.

JACK KEANE (RET.): There is a possibility here with the momentum that the Taliban gained in large part due to the lack of a US presence, especially robust air power and intelligence capabilities, which allows you to understand what the Taliban are doing. . It is a possibility, certainly, that the Taliban will take control. And let’s think about it. Certainly, President Biden, when he made the decision to withdraw all American forces, does not want the Taliban to take control and for Al Qaeda and ISIS to be reborn, which we know would likely happen.

But what they haven’t been able to do is put in place a good transition and a good strategy to deal with the situation without those 2,500 American forces on the ground.

So we have a huge problem in our hands. Half of these districts, as the map shows, are under Taliban control. Now the Afghan security forces have voluntarily given up part of this because, without air power, they cannot defend… the whole country. They therefore consolidate their forces around the provincial capitals, of which there are 34, and they still control them. But the Taliban will at some point exert pressure on these capitals. And it comes. They can wait until August 31, when US forces will be officially out. I think they’ll probably start moving before that.
