Detroit Tigers TV analyst Jack Morris has been suspended indefinitely by Bally Sports Detroit after using an accent to describe what the Tigers should do when they pitch in front of Los Angeles Angels’ Shohei Ohtani.
Bally Sports Detroit said in a statement Wednesday that he was “extremely disappointed” with Morris’s remarks and that the former major league pitcher will undergo prejudice training “to educate him on the impact of his comments and how it can have a positive influence in a diverse community. “
“We have a zero tolerance policy for prejudice or discrimination and we deeply apologize for his callous remark,” the network said.
The Tigers said in a statement they were “deeply disappointed” with Morris’s comments.
“We fully support Bally Sports Detroit’s decision and its continued commitment to ensuring that all staff uphold the highest standards of personal conduct,” the team said.
Later on the Tuesday night show Morris said ahead of inning ninth that he “had no intention of doing anything offensive and I apologize if I did. I respect and j have the utmost respect for this guy and don’t blame a pitcher for walking him. “
