Walt Becker is leading the project, which is set to begin shooting in New York in June and is being produced by Jordan Kerner and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.

The books, by Norman Bridwell, follow the misadventures of the giant red dog and its owner, a girl named Emily Elizabeth.

In the film, Emily (Camp) will have trouble integrating at home and at school and will discover a little red puppy destined to become his best friend. When Clifford magically experiences a growth spurt, becomes a gigantic dog and catches the eye of a genetics society, Emily and her uncle Casey (Whitehall) must fight the forces of greed as they run across New York. Along the way, Clifford affects the lives of everyone who surrounds him and teaches Emily and her uncle the true meaning of acceptance and unconditional love.

The script was written by editorial teams Jay Scherick and David Ronn and Annie Mumolo and Stan Chervin.

Camp recently appeared alongside Kurt Russell in the Netflix holiday hit The Chronicles of Christmas. She will work again with Nicole Kidman and Witherspoon when she returns to the role of Chloe MacKenzie in the second season of Big little lies premieres on June 9th. N0S4A2, in which she plays alongside Zachary Quinto, will be presented on June 2nd.

Whitehall has made a name as a comedian and playing in two British comedies, Fresh meat and Bad Education. On this side of the pond, he appeared in Nutcracker and the Four Kingdoms and will be seen with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Cruise in the jungle, whose creation will take place in July 2020.

Darby is replaced by Morris Yorn's Paradigm and Alex Kohner. Whitehall is replaced by CAA and United Agents.
