“Jackass” star Sean “Poopies” McInerney is recovering from a shark bite after a risky stunt performed on behalf of Shark Week.

Each year, the Discovery Channel focuses a week of programming on delivering shark content, and this year several “Jackass” daredevils were invited to star in a special that would feature their antics, including stunts and pranks. McInerney was recently bitten by a shark during such a stunt.

In a clip shared by the network, the daredevil could be seen vanishing into the water after attempting to jump off a ramp. Once the star is in the water, a shark rushes in its direction and can be seen rushing towards McInerney.

The clip was then cut with rescuers pulling McInerney out of the water with blood trailing behind him from his hand.

‘Jackass’ star Chris Pontius said the incident “was a reminder that we were pushing hard enough. It could happen, of course.”

The next day, Pontius said McInerney was “doing very well”.

Steve-O, a star of the Daredevil franchise, took to Instagram on Sunday and shared a very graphic image of McInerney’s injury after being operated on. The star has stitches on her hand and wrist with visible damage to the flesh and thumb.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the stunt was inspired by a “Happy Days” scene in which Fonzie uses a ramp to jump over a shark while wearing water skis.

I knew there was a chance I would get bit by a shark, but I didn’t think that would happen, ”McInerney said in response, according to the outlet.“ I don’t blame the sharks at all. I mean, I was in their living room, and it was dinner time. “
