New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom is sidelined with tightness in his right forearm and will miss his scheduled departure to the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, manager Luis Rojas said on Saturday.
DeGrom felt uncomfortable on Friday during a bullpen session in Pittsburgh, according to Rojas. An MRI a few hours later showed there was a contraction of the forearm but no structural damage. The right-hander has yet to be reinserted into the rotation and there is no projection on when deGrom could throw again. It is seen from day to day.
“At the moment we are treating the player for what he feels,” Rojas said. “This is how we approach day to day until he feels good and can throw.”
DeGrom is 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA leading the major leagues in 15 starts this season, despite several health issues. He last pitched on July 7 against Milwaukee.
Rojas added that deGrom said on Saturday that he also felt similar tightness in his forearm during a paddock session just before the all-star break. DeGrom did not attend Tuesday night’s All-Star game at Coors Field in Denver, choosing instead to spend time with his family and rest for the second half.
